Black and White Photography by Alberto Zarate
Alberto Zarate is an award winning black & white photographer whose works have appeared in shows and galleries throughout the northeast. He had his first exposure to photography back in the 1970's, while attending Nassau Community College, where he took every photography course offered. He began his professional career in 1991 and hosted his first photography exhibition and sale in 1994 at the B.J. Spoke Gallery in L.I. New York. Since then Alberto spends all of his time with his art. His technique is self-taught, based upon the experience of shooting hundreds of rolls of film each year. "I do 100 percent of my pictures, even the matting and framing."
Alberto travels all over, gathering material for his camera, perfecting it and then exhibiting in various art shows and galleries, such as:

  • Molloy College, L.I. New York
  • B.J. Spoke Gallery, L.I. New York
  • Bruce Museum, Greenwich CT.
  • Rock Hall Museum, L.I. New York
  • Brandywine Arts Festival, Wilmington DE.
  • Old Saybrook Arts Festival, CT
  • Huntington Art League, L.I.New York
  • Wickford Fine Arts Festival, RI.
  • Westport Fine Arts Festival CT.

Praised by many as some of the most captivating ever seen,
one reviewer wrote of his works:
"Such is the power of Alberto Zarate's lens that it can make images come to life. Mr. Zarate's realistic black & white prints attain fine contrast & texture, great angles and impressive reflections and shadows." Arlynne Boltson, The Long Islander,1995.

Additionally, as a result of a Cornell Capa
decision to award 1st prize to Mr. Zarate's Calalily #3,

    Margaret Moorman of Newsday wrote:
"Printed with exquisite care, the picture shows a close up of a calalily looking poised for flight, much like the old fashioned habits of certain French nuns. Mr. Zarate has exposed this elegant shot to reveal every nuance of vein & sheen, as if this lily were the last flower on earth."

While Alberto's awards are many, it is the pleasure people get while
viewing his art that he really treasures.
